Frankfurt for One Night

It is time again for a view of my room… After having a small room at Wombat’s in Munich and a large room at Hotel Lasserhof in Salzburg, I was not ready for the tiny room which was at the Ibis in Frankfurt. While it was clean and made efficient use of the space, it was INCREDIBLY SMALL! I could not stand sideways in front of the sink with my arms by my side… When I put my coat in the closet, it took up the entire closet.

the bath
the shower shot (again tilt your head to the left)

It was on 76€, for one night and on the river…
What a view?!?!

Need I remind of how tiny the bath is... Check out this video!

Alpine Cabin in the City

I have been so lucky throughout this trip with my lodging selection! Wombat’s (my place in Munich) was adorable and now look at what I have in Salzburg… I feel like I am in cabin in the Alps and for only 56€/night.
wardrobe and one of the two desks…see my skylight!
bed with cable tv, Wombat’s did not have a tv in the room (and yes, that is Larry King Live)
bathroom with another skylight!

Hostels are Cheap Hotels

I LOVE my hostel too! I have two twin beds, which I could push together, but do not mind them being apart, for I can use the other bed for next-day clothes staging. My room also has a wardrobe, table and two chairs and a bathroom with toilet, mirror, sink and shower with hot water! Speaking of hot, I also have a semi-private patio that I can access from the 2 doors that are apart of my wall of 3 windows (with the single being a window that partly opens for fresh air). And if it gets too cool, I can turn on the radiator heaters! All of this for 58€ a night!!!!! Did I also, mention I am about 1.5 blocks from the train station? Did I also mention the complimentary wi-fi in the lobby? The only downside is this place has the tiniest elevators I have ever seen in my entire life…. It could only fit me and my luggage, but how many times would I be transporting me and my luggage? Twice.

the beds

the wardrobe (tilt head to left for a better view...I have not learned how to adjust pictures after uploading so, please be patient)

the toilet and you flush by pressing the button above (tilt head to left)

the sink

the shower (tilt head to the left)

one view of the patio window, with one of the windows opened (I quickly closed it after taking this photo.)

another view of the windows....

the elevator...told you it was tiny!
the reason why, it is made for 4 people...

How Thank you Rick Steves for this one!!! I will stay here again!

P.S. This place is so great, I will call it a hotel from now on….

Things Are Coming Together!

I just go through periods (days) where I am all about preparing for Europe and others where there is no activity. This is one of those periods where I was all about Europe.

This week alone, I purchased my ticket to see the Bayersische Staatoper perfrom Madama Butterfly at the Nationaltheater in Munich and booked my housing for Salzburg.

A few months ago, I signed up to be placed on the waitlist for opera tickets. I wanted to see Ariodante on January 16 and Madama Butterfly on January 17. As time progressed, I decided to only go see Madama Butterfly. This past week, I received notice that my ticket request was granted, but I had until October 31 to purchase the tickets. I am soooooooo excited! I get to see Madama Butterfly...one of the most famous operas!

I have been trying for months to book my housing in Salzburg. The place I was trying to stay has not opened for 2008 bookings. I could understand the delay in June, July, August and even September. Now that October has passed and it is now November, I cannot anymore. So, I booked elsewhere. I originally was going to stay at a hostel, now I will be at a hotel. Originally, I was going to only have internet in the lobby, but now it will be in the lobby and my room. I, also, get a television to watch the news. I am very happy.....

Munich Housing...Check! Frankfurt Housing...Check!

Yesterday, I took another step in preparing for my trip. I was finally able to book my housing for my stay in Munich and Frankfurt.
It has been taking awhile for me to have access to my Munich housing because I am staying at a hostel. I had e-mailed them a month or so ago and was told that housing for January 2008 would not be available until November. I was not too happy with having to wait that close to the day to book, but Europeans tend to be a bit more laid back than Americans. Actually, everywhere people tend to be more laid back than the US. So, something last night told me to try to book my lodging on their site.... Low and behold, I could do it!
Then, I was thinking since I am having all of this luck, let me try Salzburg and Frankfurt. Salzburg was a no go...for now. In Frankfurt, I had planned on staying in an actual hotel due to my early departure for the train station then to the airport.
